Brunei Methanol Company Sdn Bhd (BMC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) yesterday.
The MoU seeks to foster discussions aimed at identifying collaborative opportunities in areas such as hydrogen production and storage; carbon capture and utilisation; water remediation and treatment; corrosion protection and inhibition; and artificial intelligence-assisted advanced material design. These initiatives are expected to promote technological innovation and develop local human capital.
The MoU was signed by BMC Chief Executive Officer Jesús Enrique Mora Marín and UBD Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle, witnessed by BMC Executive Officer Yasuhisa Tsukamoto and Director of the Centre for Advanced Materials and Energy Sciences (CAMES) Associate Professor Dr Malai Haniti binti Sheikh Abdul Hamid.
The Office of the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Industry Engagement and Enterprise Development) facilitated this strategic partnership, underscoring its commitment to fostering impactful industry-academia collaborations.
UBD recognised BMC as a key collaborator in supporting CAMES’ mission to advance research in materials science and energy studies, aligning with Brunei’s economic diversification efforts. Over the next 15 years of BMC’s commercial operations, this partnership will also contribute to achieving the first pillar of Brunei Vision 2035: cultivating a well-educated and highly skilled workforce that meets international standards.
