The Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Mosque Takmir Committee, together with the Spiritual and Community Service Unit of the UBD Student Affairs Division organised a special talk on the blessings of korban yesterday in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidiladha.
Student Dean and Deputy Chairman of the UBD Mosque Steering Committee Saidai bin Haji Hitam attended the event at the UBD Mosque.
Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute (SHBIE) lecturer Dr Haji Gamal Abdul Nasir bin Haji Zakaria presented the talk on ‘Ibadah Korban Antara Kemampuan dan Kemahuan’.
The talk touched on the importance and benefits of korban as well as discussion on the proper execution of korban to facilitate a better understanding of the proper handling of the sacrificial worship according to Islamic law.
Korban is the act of animal sacrifice carried out during Hari Raya Aidiladha. The meat from the sacrificed animal is divided among the poor and needy, shared with relatives and friends and is also kept for personal consumption.
The talk was moderated by Muhammad Riif’at ‘Atiyah bin Haji Anwari.
The committee hopes that the knowledge shared in the lecture will be beneficial, especially for the korban management committee members who will oversee the participants’ korban.
Also present were UBD officers and staff, as well as the korban working committee members and invited guests from external departments and higher education institutions in the Sultanate. – Adib Noor
