A Khatam Al-Quran ceremony was held on Tuesday to mark the 40th anniversary of Kampong Sungai Besar Mosque.
Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman attended as guest of honour at the ceremony.
The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah by the minister, followed by Surah-Surah Lazim led by Kampong Sungai Besar Mosque Imam Muhammad Hazman bin Haji Mohd Hairol Azme. He also led the takhtim and Doa Allah Peliharakan Sultan dan Brunei Darussalam.
The ceremony featured a Dikir Marhaban performed by Khatam participants, comprising mosque congregants.
Village Head of Kampong Sungai Besar, Kampong Serdang and Sungai Belukut Lieutenant (Rtd) Colonel Haji Zaini bin Haji Damit in his capacity as advisor of Kampong Sungai Besar Mosque Takmir committee member and Penghulu of Kota Batu Mukim Rasli bin Taram were also present.
Kampong Sungai Besar Mosque, established in 1984, was officially opened by former Minister of Education and Health Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz.
Its history dates back to 1964 when the first mosque was built on a hill opposite the current site. – Fadhil Yunus
