Compassionate leave is a leave granted to educators in the Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ministry of Religious Affairs during the school term in accordance with the established guidelines and conditions, effective January 1, 2025.

Its entitlement is based on one year of service and can be taken for a maximum of 10 days including public holidays and special holidays.

The details were shared during a socialisation session on compassionate leave for educators to school leaders and representatives from higher education institutions at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Girls Arabic Religious Secondary School in Kampong
Katok yesterday.

Government school leaders from clusters 2, 3, 4, and 6, representatives from several private schools as well as from the Institute of Brunei Technical Education and Politeknik Brunei attended the socialisation sessions conducted by the MoE.

Director of Educators Management at the MoE Masdiah binti Haji Tuah delivered the briefing.

The general requirements for applying compassionate leave include visiting a close family member who has passed; accompanying  and taking care of a close family member receiving treatment within or outside the country as well as one’s personal treatment with an official letter from the hospital; experiencing unfortunate incidents by oneself or close family members; attending a convocation ceremony overseas for oneself or a close family member; and taking care of a newborn adopted child.

The provision of compassionate leave represents the government’s efforts to ensure the welfare and well-being of educators to enhance motivation in carrying out teaching and learning duties.
