Ministry responds to viral message

James Kon

The Ministry of Home Affairs yesterday said there are no individuals or agency appointed to take photos or fingerprints at residences in a statement issued in response to a viral message circulating on social media and WhatsApp on May 3.

The ministry also said there were no officials from the Immigration and National Registration Department conducting these activities.

The ministry was responding to a viral message, ‘High Security Notice’, which alleged that house robbers were impersonating officials to collect thumbprints and photographs for an upcoming census.

The message also warned that the government had no such scheme, and alleged that while the individuals may bear official-looking documents, they are fake and urged the public to not give away any personal information.
