The Ministry of Education (MoE) asserted their dominance in the 31st Civil Service Day Inter-Ministry Netball Tournament after being crowned overall open winners at the Multi-purpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.
The title favourites collected maximum points to remain unbeaten in the round robin stage and retained the crown they won during the previous edition in 2023. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) finished runners-up in the open category with the Ministry of Health (MoH) securing third place, who put on a merciless rout of the Ministry of Defence (MinDef) 20-4 in their final match.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Development (MoD) emerged champions in the veteran category.
The 31st Civil Service Day Inter-Ministry Netball Tournament was organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports through the Youth and Sports Department with the cooperation of the Brunei Netball Association. The three-day tournament, which ran for three consecutive Fridays starting from January 10, came to a close yesterday. The meet saw the participation of 10 ministries namely the PMO; Ministry of Finance and Economy; MinDef; Ministry of Home Affairs; MoE; Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism; MoD; MoH; Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications.
Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin presented prizes to the winners.
The tournament aimed to strengthen relations among ministries through sports meetings involving the public service community of various ages and positions. – Fadhil Yunus
