The launch of the Brunei Darussalam Financial Literacy Competency Framework for School Children and Adults for secondary and pre-university level is a milestone in the effort to equip students with the knowledge and skills to navigate the complexities of the financial world.

This was said by Acting Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman at the launch of the framework held in conjunction with the 9th National Savings Day celebrated every May 28 at the MoE yesterday.

He said the new framework complements the Brunei Darussalam Financial Literacy Competency Framework for School Children and Adults for Primary level launched in April 2021.

The acting permanent secretary acknowledged that financial literacy extends beyond numeracy skills hence the framework encompasses knowledge, understanding, skills and responsibilities across eight themes including money and banking; savings and investments; and financial planning. These are integrated into the curriculum in different subjects including Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB), Malay language, English language, mathematics and BAT (business, art and technology).

Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, the guest of honour, presented the framework to ministry officials and handed certificates of appreciation to committee members involved in developing teaching resource materials. The minister later toured an exhibition on financial education.
