To improve public welfare through the provision of safe, quality and affordable housing, the Ministry of Development (MoD) has placed emphasis on the management and implementation of projects for housing development and basic infrastructure facilities that are designed according to existing standards.
Minister of Development Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid, in his deliberation on the ministry’s budget, said the ministry has allocated a budget of BND3,066,320 for the management and maintenance of estate and assets for the year.
The minister said since its introduction in 1984, 30,296 houses and land lots have been given under the National Housing Scheme (RPN) and Landless Indigenous Citizens Housing Scheme (STKRJ) covering 5,525 hectares across four districts.
Through the 11th National Development Plan (RKN 11), two housing projects are currently in the implementation phase.
The first project is in RPN Kampong Lugu Phase 2, which consists of 1,000 terrace houses currently under construction and expected to be completed by this year.
The minister said the project, which commenced in January 2021 has experienced a seven-month delay.
Among the contributing factors for the delays included working hours being affected, travel restrictions leading to shortage of workers during the first and second waves of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Fortunately, the project is back on track, and it is expected to be completed by end of this year,” he said.
The second project, he added, is being carried out at RPN Kampong Tanah Jambu Phase.
Some 7,950 terrace houses are expected to be built by January 2025.
He also said, “The construction of 140 units of terrace houses in RPN Kampong Rimba reached completion in September 2022 and will be allocated to eligible applicants this year.
“Meanwhile, at RPN Kampong Lambak Kanan 270 out of 300 units also will be provisioned for eligible applicants this year.
