Minister visits Oman, attends book fair

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad paid a working visit to Oman from February 28-29 on the invitation of Omani Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham bin Tariq Al-Said, and to attend the 28th Muscat International Book Fair 2024 at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Brunei Darussalam has participated in the book fair since 2013, while Oman has participated in the Brunei Book Festival since 2014 and has received ‘Country of Honour’ at the book festival in 2019.

The participation is part of the memorandum of understanding forged between the two ministries in 2012 on cultural cooperation. It also symbolises the long-standing relations between the two countries.

Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Nazmi also visited the booths set up by Omani agencies at the Muscat International Book Fair.

The agencies were: the National Records and Archives Authority of Oman; the Children’s Museum of Oman; the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism of Oman; the Social Protection Fund of Oman; and Omani Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning.

Throughout the working visit, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi was accompanied by the Undersecretary at Omani Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth Saeed bin Sultan bin Yarub Al Busaidi, as the representative of Sayyid Theyazin, during which they exchanged views and experiences as well as opportunities to enhance the bilateral relations.

Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi also met with Brunei citizens serving at the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in the Sultanate of Oman, as well as those working or studying in Oman. – James Kon
