Azlan Othman

Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman urged the public not to panic, to keep calm and to be patient when facing the COVID-19 outbreak.

The minister urged the public to accept the pandemic as a test and not to blame one another during a dialogue session between the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) and the Legislative Council (LegCo).

Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin said, “We should strive to avoid getting infected and follow recommendations such as getting vaccinated and adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“We must put our trust in Allah the Almighty and to live with the virus while at the same time increase our efforts spiritually and physically.”

LegCo delegation head Yang Berhormat Iswandy bin Ahmad acknowledged COVID-19 as a big challenge and applauded MoRA’s efforts to disseminate information and knowledge digitally while not diminishing efforts in embracing the Islamic faith.

The dialogue session is an annual forum to share information with the LegCo regarding the ministry’s development and achievements as well as discuss matters regarding religious education, mosque affairs and Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB).

Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar and Permanent Secretary at the MoRA Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim were present.
