Investing in Brunei’s future remains the pivotal theme of the budget 2024 outlook, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah said during a talk on ‘Gearing up towards Wawasan 2035 – an overview of Budget 2024 and a look into FDIs’ at Radisson Hotel on Tuesday.
He also emphasised the importance of an Economic Blueprint as well as Goal 3 of Brunei Vision 2035 which focuses on five identified key sectors – downstream oil and gas, food, tourism, services and ICT. The Economic Blueprint “identifies six aspirations, including productive businesses, skilled individuals, a globally-connected economy, sustainable environment, quality economic infrastructure and good governance,” the minister added.
He also iterated that the Sultanate will continue to push its competitiveness in the global market to attract foreign direct investment and improve its business ecosystem for both international and local businesses.
French Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam and Patron of French Bruneian Business Association (FBBA) Bernard Regnauld-Fabre in his opening remarks said, “France is developing a very active and concrete cooperation with ASEAN focusing on the ASEAN Junior Fellowship Programme (AFJP) as well as on ASEAN research centre on climate change due to open soon in Bandar Seri Begawan. Furthermore, a EUR1 million fund has been recently created which will finance initiatives on key issues like energy connectivity and ASEAN Power grid with a seminar in Singapore in 2025.”
