The distribution of miniature table flags to mark the upcoming Brunei Darussalam 40th National Day celebration took place at several learning institutions in the Brunei-Muara District yesterday.
Implemented by the Ministry of Education (MoE) through the Department of Co-Curriculum Education in collaboration with the Islamic Studies Department, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Information Department, the Prime Minister’s Office, the event aimed to instil a sense of patriotism among students in conjunction with the 40th National Day celebration.
At Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), the ceremony was officiated by Vice Chancellor Datin Paduka Profesor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, who distributed the miniature table
flags.
Some 1,500 small table flags were distributed to teachers and students who will be involved in the celebrations.
Meanwhile, in the Belait District, a ceremony was held at the Belait Sixth Form Centre (PTEB) where Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Corporate) at the MoE Professor Dr Noor Azam bin Orang Kaya Maha Bijaya Haji Othman, along with senior officers from the MoE, were welcomed by PTEB’s Acting Principal Muhammad Shamry bin Haji Mohd Sani.
The acting principal noted in his speech that eight students will receive the miniature flag as they represent classes from Pre-U2 Science 1 to Science 6, as well as Humanities 1 and 2, comprising over 157 students.
“The miniature flag will be placed on the teachers’ and students’ tables in celebration of the National Day and in appreciation of our national flag,” he added.
He also noted that the school will participate in National Day activities, with the school’s Bomba Cadets and choir group having been selected to take part in the flag-raising ceremony at the Menara Cendera Kenangan today.
The ceremony continued with the singing of the patriotic song, Bendera Negara, by the school’s choir group with the handing of miniature flags to student representatives by the acting deputy permanent secretary. – Lyna Mohamad & Daniel Lim
