22190 Private Norashiqin binti Hamdan from the Directorate of Intelligence at the Ministry of Defence embraced Islam in a conversion ceremony at her parents’ home in Kampong Pengkalan Dong, Tutong District on Friday.
The ceremony also celebrated her younger brother 53985 Laskar Mohammad Shafiee bin Hamdan of the Royal Brunei Navy who recently converted to Islam.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Sayyidul Istigfar and Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by verses 1-11 of Surah Al-Mu’minun by Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Religious Directorate (JAMA’AT) Corporal Zulilmi bin Haji Julahia.
Private Norashiqin recited Syahadah led by an officer from the Islamic Da’wah Centre, Tutong District. The ceremony was further enlivened with the chanting of takbir three times, followed by the recitation of Doa Pengislaman by Acting Director JAMA’AT Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Mujib bin Haji Japar and concluded with Dikir Marhaban, the sprinkling of bunga rampai and the recitation of Doa Peliharakan Sultan and Negara Brunei Darussalam.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of mementoes by Acting Commander of the RBAF Brigadier General (Udara) Dato Seri Pahlawan Mohd Sharif bin Dato Paduka Haji Ibrahim, the guest of honour, to Private Norashiqin and Laskar Mohammad Shafiee.
Legislative Council member and Penghulu of Mukim Ukong Yang Berhormat Haji Mohamad Danial @ Tekpin bin Ya’akub, Acting Tutong District Officer Awangku Arif Anuar bin Pengiran Haji Ahmad, Kampong Ukong Village Head Mohammad Hakimi bin Abdullah Gampar and Director of the Islamic Da’wah Centre, Ministry of Religious Affairs Haji Abdul Rajid bin Haji Md Salleh were also present.
