Sixty-two military officers and local employed civilians (LEC) from the British Forces Brunei (BFB) donated blood at the BFB blood donation drive at the Chit Chat Community Centre, Seria.
The donation organised by BFB, was held in collaboration with the Blood Donation Centre at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital.
Event coordinator Corporal Satkar Shahi said the drive served as a reminder on the importance of donating blood.
“The seven-year-old daughter of an LEC is suffering from thalassaemia and she requires blood (A positive) transfusion every week,” he said.
As a regular blood donor, Corporal Satkar stressed on how donating blood can help children in need to lead a healthy lifestyle.
“I know many others with similar or serious conditions requiring blood. Donating blood can help save lives,” he said.
Of the 64 who registered for the drive, 62 were eligible to donate.
“Through this initiative, I hope to raise awareness about the importance and benefits of donating blood; and to encourage our community to join us in making a positive impact on the lives of others. Together, we can contribute to saving lives and fostering a stronger, more compassionate society,” said Corporal Satkar.
He also added that BFB plans to conduct the donation drive annually for the BFB community. – Daniel Lim
