MicroSDs go big, speed up

SEOUL (ANN/THE KOREA HERALD) – Samsung Electronics, the world’s foremost memory chip manufacturer, announced on Thursday the launch of two new 1 terabyte microSD card models: the Pro Plus and Evo Plus.

These cards feature advanced 1-terabit triple-level cell eighth-generation V-NAND technology, arranged in eight layers. This innovation enables SSD-level storage capacity to be achieved in the compact microSD format, boosting both durability and performance.

Since their introduction in 2015, Samsung’s Pro Plus and Evo Plus microSD cards have been recognised for their high capacity, speed, and stability.

With the new 1 terabyte capacity, users can store over 400,000 4K UHD images or 45 console games, making these cards ideal for content creators and technology enthusiasts who require fast file transfers and substantial storage.

The Pro Plus offers sequential read speeds of up to 180 megabytes per second, while the Evo Plus provides speeds of up to 160 megabytes per second.

The latest models feature enhanced energy efficiency due to a new 28-nanometre controller, a notable improvement from the previous 55-nanometre technology.

Designed for exceptional durability, these microSD cards have undergone rigorous testing for reliability under extreme conditions, including exposure to water, high temperatures, X-rays, and magnetic fields.

Compatible with a wide range of devices, including Android smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles, action cameras, and drones, these microSD cards provide versatile storage solutions for various applications.
