The Health Promotion Centre (HPC) through the Mental Health Strategy Unit with the support of the Clinical Psychology Division, Ministry of Health (MoH) organised a mental health awareness and self-wellness workshop for selected non-governmental organisations (NGOs) recently.

The one-day workshop was attended by nearly 50 members from five organisations – the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society, Brunei Youth Council, The Big BWN Project, Cope for Hope and Blue Raincoat Collective.

The workshop was held to share matters related to mental health and personal well-being, as well as resources recognised by the MoH, and provide a platform for the organisations to directly contact the HPC for help and support in any activities promoting mental health and well-being they directly organise.

The HPC’s workshop included a briefing on mental health by HPC psychologist Siti Nadzirah binti Haji Abdullah, and on the types of mental disorders by clinical psychologist at the Clinical Psychology Division Atiqah binti Safar.

The workshop also saw a discussion between participants on issues related to mental health, as well as a question and answer session from the Clinical Psychology Division, the Community Psychology Division and the Mental Health Strategy Unit.

The NGO, Friends of HPC, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the HPC on November 8, 2022, in conjunction with the launch of the Brunei Darussalam Mental Health Action Plan 2022 – 2025 and the World Mental Health Day 2022 celebration.

The MoU is an initiative under the Strategic Health Action Plan 2019-2023 and the Brunei Darussalam Mental Health Action Plan 2022-2025, aimed to mobilise resources to increase awareness and understanding of the importance of mental health and well-being.
