MELAKA (BERNAMA) – The Melaka government is set to strengthen collaboration with Indonesia’s tourism associations to drive growth in the sector, said state Tourism, Heritage, Arts and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman.
He said this was among the matters discussed during his working visit to Jakarta last week.
“We have also invited interested Indonesian airlines to operate at Melaka International Airport.
“In addition, we are focusing on strengthening cooperation in the health tourism sub-sector, which significantly benefits Melaka given the high number of Indonesian visitors seeking medical treatment while vacationing here.”
He told reporters this after attending the Melaka Nightlife Programme February 2025 edition at the Stadthuys building in Banda Hilir last night.
Meanwhile, Abdul Razak said that nine tourist attractions in the state would offer free entry on Feb 20 to commemorate the declaration of independence of Malaya.
“We expect more private sector players to join this initiative to further promote Melaka’s attractions.
“However, details on free ticket distribution will be finalised in the upcoming state executive council meeting,” he said.
In a related development, Abdul Razak said the Melaka Nightlife programme, now in its second year, would be further enhanced with affordable ticket prices for visitors.
He noted that the event has received an overwhelming response, drawing approximately 50,000 visitors to tourist spots such as Zoo Melaka, Menara Taming Sari, Melaka River Cruise and museums.
“We have also received positive feedback on the increasing participation of traders for the MYR10 Combo Meal Set under the programme,” he said.
