ANN/THE STAR – Some 25,000 pieces of clothing have been distributed for free in a Hari-Raya giveaway under the ‘Rahmah boutique-type’ stall initiative.
Klebang Besar Village Safety and Development chairman Mohd Yusoff Abu Hassan said the concept was also popular among the outstation folks including foreigners who made a beeline to the stalls set up at Rural Transformation Centre at Klebang, Melaka, Malaysia.
“The stall distributing the free clothing was set up on the seventh day of Ramadhan and not a single cent was charged for those taking the items from here.
“It’s also open to all races,” he said, on Thursday.
Mohd Yusoff said the giveaway would continue until the clothing supply runs out.
“We estimate 30,000 Hari-Raya clothes to be distributed before the festive day,” he said.
Mohd Yusoff said this was an annual event organised to assist the bottom 40 per cent (B40) groups in the state.
“The clothing items were donated and all are high quality and fashionable,” he said.
Mohd Yusoff said the initiative of free Hari-Raya garments giveaway was also aimed to instil kindness among young people.
“We see these kids feeling delighted when their parents select the clothes from here.
“Hopefully, through this initiative, these children would one day repay by doing the same when they grow up and are successful,” he said.
The boutique was launched by Senior Political Secretary to Prime Minister Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin and Member of Parliament (MP) for Kota Melaka Khoo Poay Tiong on Thursday night.
Shamsul Iskandar said he would also suggest that the same concept be expanded to other parts of the country.
