    Meeting strengthens Brunei-China economic ties

    The 4th Brunei-Guangxi Economic Corridor (BGEC) Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) Meeting was held recently, joined by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah.

    Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew in his opening remarks said the upgraded BGEC memorandum of understanding signed last year has opened up more potential for cooperation.

    The BGEC played a pivotal role in fostering a dynamic supply value chain between Brunei, China and other ASEAN member countries.

    The minister also highlighted the substantial growth in trade between the Sultanate and Guangxi this year, reflecting the strength and resilience of the partnership, and commended the initiatives of the Muara Port Company, which has significantly improved regional connectivity.

    He encouraged more quality foreign direct investment in key sectors, namely food, downstream oil and gas, tourism, services, and information and communications technology, adding that, the BGEC will continue to be a vital instrument in strengthening the economic partnership between Brunei and China.

    The meeting also to reviewed the progress of the BGEC since its inception in 2014; discuss the future work plans in promoting bilateral trade and investment for mutual prosperity; and further re-emphasise the key deliverables to be delivered by next year.  – James Kon
