With rapid technological advancements reshaping the global landscape, it is essential to examine how artificial intelligence (AI) can transform good governance and shape the future of our civil service, said Permanent Secretary (Civil Service Governance) at the Prime Minister’s Office Ajman bin Haji Meludin.
He said this during the plenary session of the Heads of Civil Service (HCS) Meeting of the 22nd ASEAN Cooperation on Civil Service Matters (ACCSM) and the HCS Meeting of the 7th ACCSM Plus Three at The Empire Brunei yesterday, as the chair and Head of Civil Service ACCSM Brunei Darussalam.
He added, “Embracing AI isn’t just an option but a necessity to ensure our public services remain agile and effective. From streamlining bureaucratic processes to harnessing data-driven insights for informed decision-making, AI empowers us to deliver services that are more accessible, inclusive, and tailored to the needs of our citizens.”
The meeting, themed ‘Strengthening ASEAN Public Sector: Fit for the Future’, focused on preparing the draft for the ASEAN Statement on Strengthening Government Strategies on Mental Health and Well-Being Towards Achieving Work-Life Balance (WLB) in the public sector.
The statement outlines standard definitions of work-life balance in the ASEAN public sector and will serve as a guide for implementing initiatives related to mental health care within ASEAN’s public service sector.
The meeting saw an agreement on adopting the draft statement by ad-referendum, taking note of the reports from the 22nd ACCSM Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) and the 7th ACCSM Plus Three SOM held on Monday.
The ACCSM Chairmanship was handed over from Brunei Darussalam to Cambodia, which will assume the role for the 2024-2026 term. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Civil Service of Cambodia Hun Many as Vice Chair of ACCSM and ASEAN Secretary-General Dr Kao Kim Hourn attended the 22nd ACCSM HCS, while Heads of Civil Service from the ASEAN Plus Three countries and delegates from Timor-Leste attended the 7th ACCSM Plus Three HCS Meeting. – James Kon
