“The 5th School Leaders Convention is the Ministry of Education’s (MoE) consistent effort to achieve Brunei Vision 2035, which is aspiring to become a nation widely recognised for the accomplishment of its well-educated and highly-skilled citizens measured by the highest international standards; quality of life that is among the top 10 nations in the world; with a dynamic and sustainable economy,” Director of Schools Marina Chek binti Bujang, as Co-Chairman of the convention said.

She made these remarks at the 5th School Leaders Convention at the Bridex Hall in Jerudong, attended by Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh as the guest of honour.

“The convention responds to the MoE’s Strategic Objective 1, which is transforming human resources in the organisation towards a performance-driven culture. Today’s convention, with the theme ‘Quality Leaders, Quality Education’ and sub-theme ‘Assessment’, is a follow-up to the School Leaders Convention in November 2022.

“The convention held every year illustrates our ministry’s continuous effort to ensure systemic coherence through strong and sustainable internal and external stakeholders with support and engagement in the implementation of education initiatives,” Marina Chek said.

The highlights of the ceremony saw the launching of the Guidebook for Blended Learning, MOE TV and Digital Resources Management System (DRMS).

The launch illustrates the culmination of years of hard work and collaboration between various stakeholders in ensuring the ministry’s continuous support to schools.

The event continued with a keynote speech titled ‘Could Assessment be Reconceptualised to Better Serve Learning?’ by Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) Professor Geoff Masters, a well-known expert in the education field with an extensive knowledge and experience in curriculum reform and assessment.

The ceremony continued with a question-and-answer session with the guest speaker.

This was followed by the presentation of the Student’s Assessment Framework from Acting Director of Examinations Shahrizal bin Haji Emran.

With the theme ‘Quality Leaders, Quality Education’, the convention aims to strengthen systemic coherence within the ministry and with strategic partners through strong and sustainable support and engagement.

Its objectives include enhancing shared accountability between departments and schools for quality implementation of MoE’s initiatives, strengthening school leaders’ leadership capacity and competencies as well as acknowledging and recognising schools’ contributions and achievements.

Some 346 participants and invitees comprising school leaders from primary and secondary schools as well as private colleges under the MoE and the Ministry of Religious Affairs are attending the two-day convention at the Bridex Hall.

Organised by the MoE through the Department of Educators Management in collaboration with the Department of Schools, the convention started yesterday and will conclude today.
