Bruneian medical students and trainee doctors and allied health professionals studying in the United Kingdom (UK) and Ireland were reminded that they were important assets to the nation, and to work towards raising the level of health and well-being for the country’s people.

This was said by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar during a hybrid gathering session with the medical students at Brunei Hall in London, UK recently.

He told the students training overseas it was important to have constant communicate with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and Ministry of Education on the planning and status of their training to facilitate monitoring, supervision and job planning as well as for students to receive advice and guidance.

He encouraged students to always practice the national philosophy of Malay Islamic Monarchy in their studies, training and work, as well as work on their communication skills with patients.

The session, organised by the MoH Brunei Student Unit and the Brunei Medical Students’ Association, aimed to inform the students on the needs of the country’s healthcare system and for students to share their experiences of their time during their studies.

A briefing was also conducted by senior officials from the ministry which touched on the direction and strategies of the MoH towards achieving Brunei Vision 2035.

The briefing also covered career related statistics, including the number of graduates who report to the ministry every year, clinical specialty services offered by the MoH, career directions and training offered in the country. – James Kon
