Local senior athletes from the Brunei Darussalam Masters Athletics Association did the country proud after winning two gold, one silver and three bronze in the Johor-Singapore International Open Masters Athletics Championships 2024 held at the Mt Austin Stadium in Johor Bahru, Malaysia recently.
Alinawati Haji Aliakbar and Ampuan Md Abdul Khifli bin Ampuan Haji Damit won gold in the shot put and discus throw events, respectively.
Meanwhile, Hajah Mariah binti Haji Matussin bagged three medals including one silver in the javelin throw and two bronze in shot put and discus throw.
The country’s other medallist was Omar bin Kahar who snatched bronze in the 3-kilometre walk event.
The association, which comprised eight participants, was led by Haji Abu Bakar bin Haji Pungut as Team Manager.
The competition featured more than 400 participants from both in the country and overseas.
Brunei also received an award as an active and disciplined nation.
The next tournament will be held in Bangkok, Thailand in February 2025. – Fadhil Yunus
