Massive drop in Brunei-Muara air quality

A massive drop in air quality in the Brunei-Muara District was recorded by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) yesterday, as hazy conditions continue to plague the nation.

JASTRe reported that Brunei-Muara District saw a pollutant standard index (PSI) reading of 98, still in the moderate range. Readings of over 101 is considered ‘unhealthy’, according to the department. The district saw a PSI reading of 45 on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Belait District’s PSI was recorded at 59, Tutong with 25, Temburong with 20, according to the department.

The Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department reports Excessive Hot Weather in the areas of Anggerek Desa, Benutan, Lakiun and Batang Duri. Members of the public are adviced to take safety precautions with respect to the hot weather conditions.

FIRE CONTROL WORKS

The Public Works Department (JKR) announced a half-lane closure of the Lumut-Belait Highway from KM18.5 to KM16.7 (Belait bound) from 7am to 5pm to carry out fire control works by the Fire and Rescue Department.

The public can use an alternate route via Lumut-Anduki for Seria bound, if needed, said JKR. Road users are also reminded to be on alert and drive slowly when approaching the area as there will be thick smoke that could potentially interfere with visibility. – James Kon
