Market stall operators told to display price tags

The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics which carried out an inspection at Pasar Tani Selayun, Jerudong, Gadong market and Tamu Kianggeh recently, reminded bench operators to display price tags on goods sold at the market, as required under the Price Tag Display Order, to enable consumers to compare prices. Over 90 bench operators did not display the price tags, while a number of operators only displayed price tags on some items.

The agency urged bench operators to comply with the Price Tag Display Order by displaying the price of goods clearly.

The failure to comply may result in a maximum fine of BND1,000. For subsequent offence, the court may impose a maximum fine of BND20,000 and five years’ imprisonment
The public can lodge a complaint under the Price Tag Display Order through official channels along with payment receipts or photographs as evidence, said the JPES.

It added that the channels are the PenggunaBijak mobile application and Darussalam Line 123.  – Azlan Othman
