Legislative Council (LegCo) member, Yang Berhormat Awang Lau How Teck, officiated the opening ceremony for the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Pesta Konvo 2024 as the guest of honour of the event held at Dewan An-Naura, Yayasan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in the capital on Tuesday.
CEO IBTE and Director of Technical Education, Dr Haji Mohd Zamri bin Haji Sabli in his welcoming remarks noted that the convocation will witness the fruits of IBTE students’ perseverance as they don their graduation robes for the first time, marking their transition from students to graduates.
Touching on the significance of having a Pesta Konvo, he noted that on the surface, it signals a convocation event is around the corner, however, planning, coordination, and execution of the activities during the event requires commitment and hard work from those involved.
Hence, he said that the event displays the team spirit of IBTE students and staff working together tirelessly to make Pesta Konvo IBTE a success, he added.
Marking as one of the events celebrated every year before the start of IBTE’s Convocation Ceremony, Pesta Konvo 2024 marks the beginning of celebrating achievements of future graduates of the upcoming 32nd Convocation Ceremony on October 29, 2024 at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas.
Apart from the Pesta Konvo, there are also other exciting and engaging events that are carried out before this year’s convocation ceremony including IBTE Job Fair for all IBTE graduates, the Khatam Al-Quran Ceremony, Sports Tournament and student-led sales and business activities, as well as a CV writing clinic.
The IBTE Job Fair, which is one of the highlights of this year’s event, saw IBTE graduates and alumni invited to explore potential employment opportunities, and also the distribution of IBTE graduation robes while the sporting events included the Inter-IBTE Tenpin Bowling Tournament and the Inter-IBTE Badminton Tournament.
Student-led sales activities will be held at IBTE Business Campus, IBTE Sultan Bolkiah Campus, and IBTE Agrotechnology & Applied Sciences.
IBTE Job Fair aims to provide a platform for IBTE graduates to seek employment opportunities amongst prospective employers from various relevant industries, who have been invited to partake in this event and serves as an initiative by IBTE to further improve the employability rates amongst IBTE graduates.
A total of seventeen companies and five Government Agencies participated where some companies would also be holding walk-in interviews, apart from showcasing vacancies within their own respective companies with the total number of vacancies that would be advertised to soon-to-be graduates and IBTE alumni during this event would be 322 vacancies.
