Donating blood for the 111th time yesterday since the age of 21 in 1996, 48-year-old Basrillah bin Zainuddin plans to donate more in the future.

He urged youth to donate blood to help those in need as well as for their own benefit, adding that donating blood regularly is good for the health.

Meanwhile, 59 pints of blood was collected during the ‘Mega Blood Donation Campaign’ organised by the Blood Donation Centre at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital to mark World Blood Donor Day celebrated every June 14. Basrillah was among the large number of donors yesterday.

Meanwhile, Haji Sabtu bin Haji Tamam has donated blood 20 times since 2014 and platelets 76 times. He said donating platelets is important for cancer treatment and for accidents since it helps stop bleeding.

Haji Razman bin Haji Usop, who donated for the 49th time, set an example for the next generation by bringing along his two sons yesterday. The campaign was his eldest and second son’s second time donating blood.

Donors are advised to book slots through the BloodKad app.

The blood donation campaign continues on June 19 and 20 at the Ministry of Health’s Al-‘Afiah Hall.
