The Magistrate’s Court on Saturday handed a two-month jail sentence to a 27-year-old local found armed with a crowbar with intent to commit crime.
Mohammad bin Ismail pleaded guilty to the charge under the Miscellaneous Offences Act for being with a dangerous or offensive weapon with criminal intentions.
Prosecutor Ahmad Firdaus bin Mohammad’s facts revealed in court that the defendant was found by police wearing a mask and carrying a crowbar after midnight on September 19.
Investigations revealed that the defendant had struck up a plan with a friend, armed with a crowbar and covered their faces with masks, set out on Jalan Pandan 8, Kuala Belait intending to steal fuel from cars and property from a house.
Before they could start, several police officers gathered near their vehicle, prompting the defendant’s friend to flee.
The defendant attempted to escape, but after a chase, he was apprehended and taken down to the Kuala Belait Police Station.
