Man lands eight months’ jail for theft

A local man was sentenced to eight months’ jail after he pleaded guilty to theft on Tuesday.

Magistrate Hajah Normazdina binti Haji Maskub handed down the sentence to Hairol Saidi bin Mohamad, 34, who stole a steam iron and air purifier from a residence in Kampong Tanjong Nangka on April 19.

According to prosecutor Nurulatikah binti Haji Husaini, the defendant was on a fishing trip when he noticed a nearby house.

After he was done fishing, he entered the house and rummaged through a bedroom on the ground floor.

He took the items and left it outside a window before returning home,and later returned to the house at 5am on April 20 to retrieve the stolen goods.

The defendant sold the air purifier and kept the steam iron for himself.

The defendant sold the air purifier for BND30 and spent the cash.

The owner of the house came to the house on the morning of April 20, only to find that it had been broken into and his property missing.

He filed a police report leading to the defendant’s arrest and recovery of both the stolen items. – Fadley Faisal
