A former supervisor was sentenced to two years in prison yesterday for breaking into his workplace’s warehouse in an attempt to steal company property.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Firdaus bin Mohammad revealed that Imam Yahya bin Sabar Suyono, 31, entered the warehouse at around 2am on Friday, intending to steal boxes of old metal snap-tight valves.
The court heard that Imam Yahya, employed as a packing supervisor for over two years, used his knowledge of the facility’s security measures to gain access.
He parked his vehicle at a distance, snuck past the security guard while they were distracted and manipulated the locked sliding doors to enter the warehouse. Once inside, the defendant carried 41 boxes of metal snap-tight valves outside the warehouse, intending to sell them to pay off his debts.
His actions were noticed when the security guard saw lights flashing inside the warehouse. Upon being confronted, Imam Yahya initially claimed he was checking the CCTV footage, but a police report was subsequently lodged, leading to his arrest.
During investigations, the defendant admitted to the crime and all stolen items were recovered. Prosecutors highlighted that access to the warehouse after 6pm required proper authorisation.
Intermediate Court Judge Harnita Zelda Skinner noted Imam Yahya’s clear records, but highlighted his abuse of workplace access for personal gain warranted a custodial sentence. – Fadley Faisal
