Acting Senior Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid yesterday ordered a 42-year-old permanent resident to settle BND52,800 in fines for possessing smuggled cigarettes.
Muhammad Dzulfadhli bin Abdullah @ Eddy anak Ugeng would have to serve 15 months’ jail in default of payment of the fine.
The court heard from the customs prosecutor that a team of customs preventive officers found the man in possession of 67 cartons, 40 packets and 32 sticks of undeclared cigarettes at a stall in Kampong Mata-Mata at 3.05pm on June 16, 2022.
The court also ordered the contraband destroyed. – Fadley Faisal
