A Chinese national was fined BND8,400 by the Magistrate’s Court on Monday after pleading guilty to possession of undeclared cigarettes.
Jin En, 43, would have to serve eight months’ jail in default of payment of the fine.
According to the Customs prosecutor, customs officers at Brunei International Airport apprehended Jin En at 12.01am on January 30. A search of his belongings revealed the contraband, leading to his immediate arrest.
Magistrate Hajah Normazdina binti Haji Md Maskub ordered all seized cigarettes to be forfeited for destruction. – Fadley Faisal
