A 34-year-old Indonesian was indicted in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday in connection to a dead man found by the roadside on Tuesday morning.

Hermanto allegedly caused the death of a 44-year-old pedestrian at Jalan Tengah, Seria by driving his white Toyota Hilux beyond the speed limit and hitting the victim at 6am on July 24.

The charge faced by the defendant – rash act not amounting to culpable homicide – is an offence punishable under Section 304A, Chapter 22 of the Penal Code.

Prosecutor Aeny Zullizam informed Senior Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman that the police have yet to complete their investigations.

The court then adjourned the case to August 13 for further mention.

Earlier, Hermanto was detained by personnel from the Seria Police Station following a call on the emergency hotline.

The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), upon receiving the call, rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area to begin investigations.

The victim was confirmed dead by paramedic at the scene and the body taken to Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital for an autopsy.
