SINGAPORE (ANN/THE STRAITS TIMES) – In about three hours, a man allegedly stole more than SGD1,800 worth of items – including stationery, chocolates and jewellery – from five shops at Changi Airport Terminal 3’s departure transit area.
Indian national Singh Sagar, 37, was handed five theft charges on April 7.
His alleged crime spree took place on March 23, between 2pm and 4.50pm, starting at WH Smith bookstore where he is said to have stolen more than SGD550 worth of items, including three stationery sets and a power bank.
Singh then went to The Cocoa Trees candy shop, Discover Singapore souvenir store, Kaboom toy store and Victoria’s Secret lingerie shop.
At these shops, he allegedly stole items including four boxes of chocolates worth more than SGD238, multiple boxes of jewellery, T-shirts and watches, and a handbag worth SGD135.
In a statement on April 6, the police said officers later detained Singh and prevented him from leaving Singapore.
He is expected to plead guilty on April 25.
This is the second reported case of theft at Changi Airport in recent days.
Australian Raj Varsha, 35, was handed a theft charge on April 4, two years after her alleged offence.
In March 2023, she left Singapore on a flight after allegedly stealing a bottle of Chanel perfume worth SGD248 from a store at Changi Airport Terminal 1’s departure transit area.
Raj was arrested when she returned to Singapore on March 31, 2025.
She is expected to plead guilty on April 11.
For each theft charge, an offender can be jailed for up to seven years and fined.
