Malaysia’s vehicle sales hit record high in March

KUALA LUMPUR (XINHUA) – Malaysia’s vehicle sales rose 7.64 per cent to a new all-time high of 78,849 units in March from 73,250 units a year ago, said the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) on Monday.

MAA said in a statement that the growth was due to the fulfillment of bookings made during the sales exemption period, the rush for deliveries by companies having their financial year ending on March 31, 2023, and Hari Raya festive season promotional campaigns.

Compared to total car sales of 63,510 units in February, the sales volume in March was 24.15 per cent higher.

According to the MAA, Malaysia’s new car sales for passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles climbed to 70,958 units and 7,891 units in March, from 65,903 units and 7,347 units a year earlier, respectively.

From January to March, the new car sales expanded 20.41 per cent to 192,474 units from 159,846 units a year ago.

The MAA expects sales in April to be much lower than March because of the short working month due to Hari Raya festive holidays.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s car production in March increased by 26.97 per cent to 76,069 units from 59,908 units a year ago.
