XINHUA – Malaysia’s labour demand remained favourable in the third quarter of 2024, with a continuous increase in the number of jobs by 1.2 per cent year-on-year, reaching a total of 9.01 million jobs, official data showed yesterday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the job number, which recorded the highest since 2018, is aligned with the slower unemployment rate of 3.2 per cent reported in the third quarter. According to the DOSM, the number of filled jobs increased by 1.2 per cent year on year reaching 8.82 million jobs, with the filled jobs rate remaining high at 97.9 per cent.
Meanwhile, job vacancies rose by 0.4 per cent to 191,800 thousand, with a 2.1-per-cent vacancy rate.
The number of jobs created for this quarter, however, demonstrated a slight decline of 0.6 per cent, with 31,800 new jobs created.
The DOSM noted the consistent upward trend of filled jobs reflects the ongoing progress in the present economic conditions. The stability was also portrayed by the positive year-on-year growth of filled jobs across all economic sectors, it added.
“The labour demand is expected to remain stable throughout the year, supported by favourable economic growth with encouraging developments in business activities,” it said.
