KUALA LUMPUR (XINHUA) – Malaysia’s manufacturing sales rose 7.7 per cent year on year to MYR163.9 billion (USD38.23 billion) in August, official data showed yesterday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the increase was primarily due to the double-digit growth recorded in the food, beverages and tobacco and electrical and electronics products sub-sectors at 16.1 per cent and 10.4 per cent, respectively. On a month-to-month basis, the sales value grew by 4.4 per cent. Export-oriented industries, which represented 72.7 per cent of the total sales value, went up by 7.8 per cent in August, while domestic-oriented industries expanded 7.6 per cent.
For the first eight months of this year, the manufacturing sector’s cumulative sales value reached MYR1.24 trillion (USD289.21 billion), increased by 4.9 per cent as compared to in 2023.
