GEORGE TOWN (BERNAMA) – The Malaysian Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) plans to hold Agro MADANI Sales in 5,000 locations nationwide with a sales target of MYR39 million.
Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, said his ministry is also targeting the participation of 46,000 entrepreneurs in the programme.
“As of July 9, the programme had generated MYR17.7 million in sales after being held in 643 locations across the country involving 10,143 entrepreneurs.
“It also recorded savings of MYR5.3 million involving 1.28 million households.
“Agro MADANI Sales is one of KPKM’s quick-win programmes that helps traders sell their goods directly to consumers.
“It can also help reduce the people’s cost of living through the savings offered,” he told reporters yesterday.
He said this after officiating the Tanjung Agro MADANI Sales Programme at the Prangin Mall in George Town.
Mohamad said the Agro MADANI Sales programme will also ensure the availability of agro-food supplies and providing consumers with the opportunity to purchase goods at reasonable prices.
“He said that through the programme, essential items which include fresh produce and controlled goods are sold for 10 per cent to 30 per cent less than market prices.
“Government complexes or premises, retail outlets under KPKM, People’s Housing Projects (PPR), residential areas, and rural areas are among Agro MADANI Sales’ target locations.
“KPKM is also planning to expand the sales programme next year to provide more savings to consumers.
“We are not competing with traders but we want to help households get essential goods up to 30 per cent cheaper than the market,” he said.
