A delegation of 31 officials from the Sabah Syariah Justice Department and the Syariah Justice Department of Malaysia visited the Syar’ie Prosecution Division of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA).
The delegation included the chief syarie judge, syariah court of appeal judges, syariah high court and syariah subordinate court judges as well as the chief registrar.
The visit began with a courtesy call to Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan at Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. During the visit, the deputy minister presented souvenirs to the head of the delegation Sabah Chief Syarie Judge Ahadin bin Arinen; and Syariah Court of Appeal Judge for Perak, representing the Malaysian Syariah Justice Department, Mohamad Shakir bin Haji Abdul Hamid. Malaysian Deputy High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Nur Ezira binti Mahadi was also present.
Following the courtesy call, a bilateral discussion was held with the Syar’ie Prosecution Division, chaired by Permanent Secretary at the MoRA Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim.
Acting Chief Syar’ie Prosecutor Hajah Hadiyati binti Haji Abdul Hadi also attended the session.
A luncheon was held in the capital, attended by the deputy minister and other senior officials from the ministry.
The meeting served as a platform to discuss current issues related to syariah legislation in both countries and to strengthen the relationship between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia. – Azlan Othman
