Malaysian students get insight on broadcasting

Some 33 final year students from the Broadcasting Management Programme at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) gained hands-on experience and insights within the facilities and students work at Kolej International Graduate Studies (KIGS) during an educational visit to the college recently.

Accompanied by four supervising lecturers, the visit was part of a group assignment on ‘Exploring Radio, TV, and Knowledge Sharing’.

The delegation from UMS were welcomed by KIGS Chief Executive Officer Dr Haji Azahairani bin Haji Mohd Jamil.

The visit focused on the facilities within the Faculty of Multimedia and Broadcasting, highlighting the college’s cutting-edge resources and environment conducive to learning and creativity.

The visiting students and lecturers were given a comprehensive overview of the programmes offered, emphasising practical training and industry relevance.

The students also had the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities, including operating broadcasting equipment, producing multimedia content, and participating in mock radio and TV broadcasts.

Lecturers from both institutions also held interactive knowledge-sharing sessions, exchanging insights and best practices in broadcasting education.

Discussions covered topics such as trends in media, technological advancements, and the importance of creative storytelling in broadcasting.

A feedback session marked the end of the visit, where the UMS delegation expressed their appreciation for the hospitality and experience provided.

The two institutions also discussed the potential for future collaborations, including student exchange programmes, joint research projects, and collaborative media productions.

Dr Intan Soliha from UMS said the visit was insightful for their students and they were impressed with the facilities at KIGS.

“The practical experiences gained here from the lecturers and students significantly enhance our students’ learning. We look forward to exploring further collaborative opportunities with KIGS,” she said. – Lyna Mohamad
