PETALING JAYA (ANN/THE STAR) – Malaysian para athlete Nazmi Nasri has secured Malaysia’s second gold medal at the Para Athletics World Championship in Kobe, Japan, today (Thursday).
Nazmi’s outstanding performance came in the men’s long jump T37 (moderate hypertonia/ataxia/athetosis) final, where he leaped to victory with an impressive distance of 6.13m.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for Nazmi, who not only clinched gold but also surpassed his previous personal best of 5.74m set at the Nakhon Ratchasima International Para Athletics in Thailand earlier this year.
His triumph was highlighted by a substantial lead over Greece’s Konstantinos Kamaras, who secured the silver medal with a jump of 6.01m, and Brazil’s Mateus Evangelista, who also achieved 6.01m but took third place on countback.
Nazmi’s success adds to Malaysia’s medal tally, following Ziyad Zolkefli’s gold medal win in the men’s F20 shot put event earlier in the week.
