A 41-year-old Malaysian man was fined BND9,600 or face nine months’ jail in default of payment of the fine, after he pleaded guilty to possessing contraband cigarettes in court yesterday.
The incident occurred on September 6, at around 6.40am, when customs officers inspected Tan Kim Yong’s vehicle at the incoming bay at Sungai Tujoh Control Post.
Eleven cartons and 10 packets of various brands of cigarettes were found and seized.
The court also ordered for the cigarettes to be destroyed. – Fadley Faisal
