Malaysian High Commission welcomes distinguished guests

Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Dato’ Raja Reza bin Raja Zaib Shah and spouse Datin Roslina hosted a Hari Raya open house featuring a spread of Malaysian delicacies such as nasi himpit, lemang, rendang ayam, satay daging goreng and lontong on Saturday.

Among the guests were Cabinet ministers, government officials and diplomats.

The high commissioner said he was pleased that he could invite more guests to the open house since the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions and serve distinguished guests Malaysian delicacies.

Guests he welcomed included Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Foreign Affairs II Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad.

Legislative Council (LegCo) Speaker Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan and Deputy Minister (Civil Service Governance) at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Paduka Mohd Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunos, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi bin Bol Hassan and Commander of the Royal Brunei Air Force Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Mohd Sharif bin Dato Paduka Haji Ibrahim were also on the guest list.

Datin Roslina said she was glad that the guests enjoyed themselves and the food prepared by Malaysian chef and restaurateur Suhaimi.

She also said there are many similarities between Bruneian and Malaysian Hari Raya cuisines but with slight differences in taste and preparations.

She added that the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration between friends and relatives are also comparable between countries in the region.

Datin Roslina shared that the rendang proved popular among the Diplomatic Corps members.

The Malaysian high commissioner and officials at the Malaysian High Commission to Brunei Darussalam will be hosting another Hari Raya gathering with the Malaysian community in the Sultanate this week.
