Malaysian entertainment icon Jaafar Onn passes at 73

(ANN/THE STAR) – Renowned Malaysian artist Jaafar Onn passed away on the morning of April 3.

At the age of 73, Jaafar took his last breath at the Sultan Idris Shah Serdang Hospital, following his admission to the emergency ward late Monday night.

The sombre news of his passing was shared by singer Haiza, a close friend of Jaafar, who was informed by the artist’s adopted son, Hanif.

Hanif had been by Jaafar’s side during his final moments at the hospital. “I received the heartbreaking news around 11am and am making my way to the hospital,” Haiza disclosed to mStar, the Malay-language portal of The Star.

Jaafar Onn’s journey in the arts began with his passion for dance, which led him to establish Maya Studio, a dance class that became a staple in Bangsar’s cultural scene.

His versatile career saw him transition from dance to television, where he became a familiar face in local cooking shows, sharing his culinary skills with audiences nationwide.

Beyond the kitchen, Jaafar was beloved for his comedic talent, notably in the popular sitcom “Cili Padi,” where his performances left a lasting impression on fans.

His acting prowess wasn’t confined to television alone; Jaafar’s talent graced the big screen in several Malaysian films, including “XX Ray,” “Sama Tak Serupa,” “Suami Isteri Dan…,” “Aku Nombor Satu,” “Tipah Tertipu The Movie,” and “Kampung Latah The Movie.”
