Malaysian airlines resume select flights

PETALING JAYA (ANN/THE STAR) – Malaysia Airlines announced the gradual resumption of some flights to and from Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan on Thursday evening in light of improved weather conditions. 

The move follows flight cancellations prompted by the eruption of Mount Ruang volcano in Indonesia on Thursday.

“While the airline endeavours to restore normal operations as soon as possible, several Malaysia Airlines flights scheduled for on Friday (April 19) have been cancelled with consideration for weather and operational safety.

“Updates will be provided periodically and communicated directly to affected customers should there be any changes to their flights.

“Passengers are urged to update their contact details via My Booking on the Malaysia Airlines website to receive timely updates from time to time via email and SMS,” read the statement posted on X.

AirAsia was also restoring their flight schedules from Friday.

As per their travel advisory updated at 10am on Friday, guests travelling to or from the affected destinations were told to check their email and mobile phones for cancellation notifications.

On Thursday, A total of 11 Malaysia Airlines flights to and from Sabah were cancelled and eight flights involving Sarawak.

The national carrier also offered affected customers a one-time change to their travel itinerary at no charge or a full refund.
