Malaysia will prosper under fair, wise King: PM

KUALA LUMPUR (ANN/THE STAR) – Malaysian Prime Minister pledged loyalty to the incoming Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, saying the country will be prosperous under the reign of a fair, wise and compassionate King.

“I am confident the government and the people will be bestowed with grace and more prosperity under the reign of a King who is just, wise and compassionate towards the people and the country,” Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said in a motion of congratulations in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday.

“As (he is) the core of the constitutional monarchy, I am confident that under His Majesty’s rule, Malaysia will be blessed with unity and long-lasting prosperity,” he added.

Anwar congratulated Sultan Ibrahim and the Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Nazrin Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah Al-Maghfur-lah.

He also pledged the loyalty of the August House to the new King.

Sultan Ibrahim will replace Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, whose reign will end on January 30.

The Malay Rulers also elected Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah as Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong for the same term.

The announcement was made by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad in a statement following the election of the next Yang di-Pertuan Agong which was held at the Special 263rd Meeting of the Conference of Rulers at Istana Negara on October 27.

Sultan Ibrahim has been elected as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong for a five-year term, effective January 31.
