PUTRAJAYA (ANN/THE STAR) – Discussions are ongoing regarding the repatriation of Palestinians currently housed at Wisma Transit Kuala Lumpur (WTKL), according to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
The minister announced during a post-Cabinet press briefing that the Cabinet has been updated on coordination efforts led by Wisma Putra and the Defence Ministry, in collaboration with the Egyptian government, to facilitate the return of the Palestinians.
“This process is still ongoing. Meanwhile, all medical services provided will continue to be available,” Fahmi assured reporters.
Fahmi emphasised the Malaysian government’s commitment to the welfare of Palestinians, including those brought to the country for medical treatment.
“This matter involves coordination between the foreign and defence ministries, and we will allow them to manage it,” he added.
On Saturday, an incident involving a group of Palestinian refugees at WTKL was resolved without injuries or major damage. The commotion occurred around 5pm when several individuals demanded expedited processing of their applications to return home. Minor damage to furniture was reported, marking the second such incident since October.
The Palestinian ambassador to Malaysia, Walid Abu Ali, expressed regret over the disturbance, noting that such actions did not reflect Palestinian culture or ethics. He reaffirmed the commitment of both the Malaysian government and the Palestinian embassy to resolving the issue and providing support to those affected.
On August 16 last year, Malaysia welcomed 127 Palestinians for medical treatment, including 41 individuals injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza. The government has since continued to provide medical services for the group, underscoring Malaysia’s dedication to supporting Palestinians in need.
Efforts to ensure the safe and orderly repatriation of the Palestinians remain a priority, as discussions with relevant stakeholders progress.
