His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in a titah extolled the benefits of reading and understanding Al-Quran, and called on Muslims to make the holy book a lifelong companion to attain blessings in this world and the hereafter.
His Majesty delivered the titah at the annual National Level Nuzul Al-Quran Celebration for 1443 Hijrah at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas last night.
Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.
Touching on the celebration’s significance, the monarch said that apart from commemorating the revelation of Al-Quran to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), the celebration also emphasises the introduction and understanding of Al-Quran as our guiding light in this world, and thus Al-Quran is the ultimate guide, as well as a remedy and blessing for the believers.
“This is why it is vital to read and understand the wisdom behind Al-Quran, and those who do will inevitably garner guidance and blessings from it,” His Majesty added. The monarch went on to say that blessing is not a trivial thing, but great and special. “Therefore, we are at a loss if we don’t seize the opportunity.”
His Majesty also said, “A way to seize the blessing is none other than through reading and harnessing all contents of Al-Quran’s wisdom.”
“This is the reason I unwaveringly encourage the study of Al-Quran, which encompasses the reading, memorising and gaining deeper wisdom from it,” His Majesty added.
His Majesty said that Al-Quran is a “permanent asset” to be harnessed in this world, and its blessings will carry forward to the hereafter. His Majesty called Al-Quran a “comprehensive constitution” for all Muslims, that is not drafted by anyone, other than Allah the Almighty.
“Those faithful must believe that by holding on to Al-Quran through reading, understanding, appreciation and practice, it will dispel any difficulties and bring light to darkness.” His Majesty said this is evident in a Firman by Allah the Almighty in Surah An-Nisa, Verse 174, which translates to: “And We have sent down to you a brilliant light.”
The Firman, His Majesty said, signals that any form of difficulties or darkness can be dispelled and shined on with light by Al-Quran.
“If we consider the pandemic as a catastrophe that is dragging us into darkness, Al-Quran is capable of taking us out of the darkness through continuous reading of it,” the monarch said. Taking note of Ramadhan, when Al-Quran was revealed, His Majesty urged the daily practice of Al-Quran reading, during the holy month or outside of it.
His Majesty also cited a Hadith by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) that translates to: “Read Al-Quran, because it will come during Judgement Day to bring intercession to its reader.”
