Maintaining good kidney health is the responsibility for all and everyone should practice a healthy and active lifestyle. They should avoid smoking and has balanced diet.

Acting Chief Executive Officer of Department of Renal Services Abdul Mu’iz bin Haji Ibrahim said these during a prize presentation ceremony for a TikTok video challenge and virtual run competition. The event also saw a donation presentation to the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) patient assistance charity fund held in conjunction with World Kidney Day 2023.

Abdul Mu’iz said, “World Kidney Day is celebrated every second Thursday in March and this year’s celebration is themed ‘Kidney Health for All – Preparing for the unexpected, supporting the vulnerable’. It emphasises the need to review early detection of kidney disease as well as its management and care to help patients live their lives as comfortable as possible.

“The theme is relevant to patients with kidney disease considering that they are among the vulnerable groups with a high risk of being infected with contagious diseases and experience more severe symptoms.

“World Kidney Day is a campaign to increase awareness of the importance of maintaining kidney health and reducing the effect of kidney disease as well as problems related to it.”
