The Youth Section of the Foochow Association in the Belait District conducted lion dance performances yesterday to enliven the festivities of the Lunar New Year in welcoming the Year of the Dragon,.
The lion dance performance, held annually, began at the association’s main building at Jalan Bunga Raya, participated by association members who gathered to prepare for the day ahead.
The members split into two groups to visit selected households and business premises that had invited the lion dance troupe to perform.
One notable household the lion troupe visited was the residence of the association’s chairman Tan Tei Tei.
The lion dance troupe was welcomed with firecrackers, dancing to the rhythmic beats of the drums.
The lion toured the house and met with the family members and guests, a tradition believed to bring prosperity and good fortune in the new year. – Daniel Lim
